Turkeys, Toilets, Torn Eyeballs, OH MY!

What a week. Thanksgiving went wonderfully. Carleigh loved EVERYTHING. I was not surprised. She is a fabulous eater, she will try anything. Her favorite by far was yams. Can't blame her- she is my daughter. She had a great time playing with her cousins at my mother-in-laws house. Then we went to my mom's house. That is where the homemade-from-scratch-best-in-the-world banana pudding was. She is truly my daughter, she was literally trying to rip the bowl out of my hands to get more. I see now that I ( aka Grammy) will be making this often.

The day after was hell. I woke up around 3 am feeling SICK. I thought I must've eaten too much, it will pass. Well, it passed all right. All morning, all day, all afternoon. I will spare everyone the details, but if you have ever had the stomach bug, you know exactly what I went through. My mom, bless her heart, took Carleigh for the day/night. Praise the Lord, because I would have never made it. I didn't get out of bed until Saturday morning. I think I would rather go through childbirth again than to ever be sick like that. I prayed with all my might that Carleigh would not get it, and so far so good. Andy got a touch of it, but no where near what I experienced. I think I have lost 10 pounds, easy.

During this whole duration, I noticed my eye was looking funny. I didn't think anything of it, just maybe it was irritated. Well, it continued to get worse and worse and this morning was swollen and BRUISED. Like someone had punched me. And it was pouring tears and hurt. So, off to Urgent Care I go on my lunch. I have a torn eyeball. And it is infected. How in the world??? I am telling you- if it is weird, it happens to me. Never fails. I will get the strangest things you have ever heard at the worst times. Example??? 3 days before my wedding, my tooth started hurting. BAD. Within hours it looked like a golfball was stuffed in my cheek. Not kidding. 2 hours later and x-rays galore, it was infected. Seems a microscopic piece of food had lodged itself it and just festered. The only way to get the swelling down was to drain it. Yup, you heard it right, DRAIN IT. Not fun, but the swelling went down in time for the vows and thanks to antibiotics was completely better by our honeymoon. What are the odds???
So, back to the eye. I now have antibiotic drops and it should be better by the end of the week.

Can you believe my baby is almost TEN months old? Can someone please stop time? She is growing so fast! She has figured how to climb. She pushes her lion (walker behind thingy) up to the couch and CLIMBS up it. This child will make me completely grey before 30, I just know it. She is such a daredevil and scared of nothing. She is on the verge of walking. If she is really excited about something and not paying attention, she will take a couple of steps on her own. But, as soon as she notices, she will fall. She also started saying MAMA this weekend. She has said it occasionally, but she has said it for 3 straight days now. It brought tears to my eyes. I have waited so long for her to say it to me. She says DADA and DOG all the time, so this has really made my day.

We are leaving on the 26th to head for the warmth! Mississippi! We are going for 10 days to visit my family and friends. I can't wait. Carleigh and I haven't gone since May!

I have two goals set for this weekend. One, is to get my Christmas tree up. I have opted this year to only put my small table top one up. I can just picture little stinker pulling the big one down on top of her. Next year we will put up the big one, when she understands a little better. My second goal is to take Carleigh to see Santa. I wonder if she will love him like I did? I hope she isn't scared of him! We were going to go this past Friday, but if you recall, Momma was not up to the challenge of even getting out of bed. I will be sure to post pictures and her and Santa.

These are pics from Thanksgiving. I love the one with the horse in her mouth. We are getting new teeth, so everything it seems is in her mouth.

Snow, Ear Infections, and Sleepless Nights

This last week has been an adventure for us. Monday we had our first real snowfall. So much fun. Can you feel the excitement? I have a feeling this is going to be a long cold winter. Which is great since I can't keep a hat OR coat on Carleigh.

Carleigh was a sick little chicken this week. She had a 103 fever on Wednesday, which I was able to get down pretty quickly with Motrin and Popsicles. So, Thursday we had a "well" baby visit which quickly turned into a "sick" baby visit. She has a double ear infection and a very very bad cold. Poor thing- she can hardly breathe and is SOOO irritable. She hasn't sleep more than an hour at a time all week, so it has been rough for us. I quickly discovered the only way she could sleep was sitting up, so we slept sitting up on the couch from Tuesday night until last night. 3 days of antibiotics later and she is almost back to normal, praise God!

On other news, Andy is coaching football again. His team made it to the finals and had to play a REALLY good team yesterday to move to the regionals. They were not able to pull out a win, but is the first time they have made it this far! Go BlueJays! We are very proud of the boys for making this far, even though the road to a championship ended yesterday.

I am super excited for Thanksgiving this week. One, for the short work week and two, for Miss Chicken to have all the yummy food!

I have a TON of pics to upload; hopefully I will get a chance over vacation.

By the way, I have started organizing Carleigh's first birthday party. Our theme will be Wizard of Oz. Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions for decorations or party favors? Send them my way!

I am not sure if I have mentioned it before, but I have a couple of side businesses. "Useless Bikinis" is a company my sweet friend Vicki and I started over the summer. We make custom bikinis to your exact measurements and whatever fabric/appliques you would like. Go to www.myspace.com/uselessbikinis to check us out. Another thing I have started doing is homemade body scrubs. If anyone is interested email me through here and I will get you samples/orders whatever you want. I can do any scent you would like. I have a vanilla sugar one that is fabulous! :)

It is more difficult than I first figured to go all the way back to 9 months ago and archive Carleigh's life. I have made the decision to skip to month 8 and go from there. I could copy straight from my baby book, but lets be honest. All that consists of is post-it notes EVERYWHERE! I will make note of her achievements though...

Carleigh cut her first tooth on August 1st and crawled on August 12th- her 6 month birthday. She is now cruising and can take a couple of steps every now and then on her own.

We now have 4 teeth and a habit of biting her mother. She loves to dance. I will have to post a video of it. She also likes to prop her feet up on her high chair during meals.

Her favorite foods now are macaroni and cheese, bananas, Dora yogurt, avocado, Cheerios. She eats everything and then cries when it is gone. We have her 9 month appointment this Thursday, so we will see what she weighs. We went a month ago for a cold, and she weighed 18 pounds- she is a chunk!

She has two favorite things- her stuffed Mickey Mouse and her puppy, Lucy. She will point at Lucy and say "Doh-Doh". Of course, Lucy loves her and thinks she should be licked and kissed often. Lucy has finally adjusted to not being the baby anymore. I think she has realized that Carleigh is here to stay.

Carleigh LOVES mirrors. Anything where she can see her reflection, watch out! Her grandpa says she is not conceited, she is convinced! :)

She is getting better with talking. Like I said before, she says doh for dog, dada, mama, and a WHOLE lot of jibber jabber that reminds me of the dad from the movie The Christmas Story. Remember when the dogs eat the turkey and he yells at them and you can't understand what he is saying? That is exactly what Carleigh sounds like. Also, we have a huge framed picture of her on the wall, and if you ask her where the baby is, she will point to it and laugh and wave. So cute.

We have had a lot of trouble the past 5 weeks with her sleeping thru the night. She has slept thru the night since she was 5 weeks old, so this has been a rude awakening- literally. I am not sure I can handle letting her "cry it out". That seems to be the suggestion I get from everywhere though. I went today and bought a sound machine. Wish us luck. I think she is just so darned excited about walking/talking/eating that she can't just lay there. I will say this for the sound machine- I used it tonight for the first time and she was out like a light alot sooner than usual.

If anyone has any suggestions for a good nights sleep, feel free to let me know. Oh, also, did/does anyone have problems when it comes to dressing/undressing/diapering? She will NOT be still to change her diaper or clothes. Is this a stage? She is freakishly strong and is able to easily get away from me....

I will post pics from her Olan Mills photo shoot, and some random ones from the past couple of months....

Month 2 and the dreaded return to work date....

February and March flew by! By her second month I started getting into the routines of mommyhood. We figured out schedules, feedings, much needed naps, venturing out into the COLD Michigan winter, and visiting friends and family nearby.

I returned to work on March 24th. Andy and I are blessed enough to have his mother and my mother watch Carleigh for us while we work. I would love to be a stay at home mom, but my shopping habits must cease for this to happen.....

The love of my life was born February 12, 2008 at 10:28 pm. She weighed in at 6 pounds 13 ounces and was 21 inches long. I started having contractions Monday the 11th around 9 pm, and went to the hospital the next day at 1pm. Labor and delivery wasn't too bad for me, of course, I had the epidural, so that may have made a slight difference! :)

I dilated pretty quickly from 6 to 10, then whoa mama! She was ready to come! I think I pushed maybe 5 or 6 times, and there she was! It was the most exhilarating, heart warming and SCARY time of my life.

* A funny side note! When the nurse was cleaning her up, I heard the nurse say, "Oh Boy...look at that hair!" In my drug induced state I thought she had proclaimed that SHE was a HE. I immediately freaked out thinking my poor little boy would be sleeping a pink room- but alas, it was untrue...

Get a load of this child's hair. It still makes me laugh....

38 weeks and counting...

This is the last pic I took before I went into labor. I was a little over 38 weeks here. Carleigh arrived at 39 weeks and 4 days.... All I can say is no wonder my back hurt! :)
